Governor Otti Condemns Attack on Policemen in Aba

Following the killing of two policemen in Aba on Friday by unknown assailants, Abia State Governor Alex Otti visited the families of the deceased officers to offer his condolences.

Four policemen were attacked in the Opobo Road area, resulting in two deaths and two injuries.

Governor Otti, speaking to journalists after visiting the victims’ families and the hospitals where the wounded officers are receiving treatment, condemned the attack as unfortunate.

He pledged to apprehend the perpetrators and expressed regret that this incident occurred just weeks after a similar attack on soldiers.

The governor assured Abia State residents that there would be a change in security strategy to prevent future occurrences.

“We thought that with all what we have done, including rounding up some of the people that were involved in that last attack, that this would not happen again.

“We have decided to change strategy. We do not want to speculate but like you (journalist) rightly asked, it is reasonable to suspect that the enemies of the state, particularly those who don’t seem to see any good or want any good for Abia people, may be somehow connected to this. That’s a suspicion.

“We are not going to let this go away without identifying and bringing to book all those who are directly or remotely involved,” Otti said.

The governor added that he believes that by the time investigations are over and all the intelligence that are being gathered are put together, government would know actually where the attacks are coming from.

Otti, however, stressed that his administration would not succumb to any form of blackmail.
