Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has taken decisive action in response to the tragic collapse of Saints Academy in Jos, which claimed the lives of over 22 individuals.

Musa Ashoms, the state’s Commissioner for Information, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that Governor Mutfwang has ordered the immediate closure of Saints Academy.

This decision came during the governor’s visit to the site of the collapsed building in the Busa Buji community, where he also visited hospitals treating the injured.

Ashoms further disclosed that Governor Mutfwang mandated the arrest of artisanal miners operating near residential areas in the state.

The governor expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that the state government would cover the medical expenses of the injured students.

In response to the tragic loss of lives and injuries sustained at Saints Academy Jos, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has declared a three-day mourning period from July 13 to July 15, 2024.

During this solemn time, all flags across the state will be flown at half-mast in honor of the victims. Governor Mutfwang, deeply affected by the incident, emphasized the importance of adhering to building codes and ethical standards to prevent such disasters.

He stressed the necessity for developers and property owners to submit their building plans for verification and revalidation by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), in alignment with Executive Order 003.
