Former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that he owes no apologies for backing the re-election of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, in the November 11, 2023, off-cycle governorship poll. Jonathan emphasized that supporting Diri was the right decision, given the governor’s significant backing from the Bayelsa people.

During a yuletide visit to the former president in Yenagoa, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah, quoted Jonathan, stating that his endorsement stemmed from Diri’s visionary leadership and commitment to state affairs.

Jonathan commended Diri’s developmental efforts, particularly in ensuring peace and stability, remarking, “I did what I did during the governorship election, and I have no apologies to anybody.” He urged Diri to fulfill the high expectations of his administration’s support base, emphasizing the importance of security for attracting investors.

In response, Governor Diri expressed gratitude for Jonathan’s support, acknowledging the impact of the endorsement on the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory. Diri credited the stability in the state to the former president’s backing and expressed optimism about Bayelsa attracting private investors.

Jonathan was also encouraged to play a significant role in reconciling people across the country and the African continent for peace and development. Additionally, Diri thanked President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible election in the state.
