NEWS DIGEST– Dr Cosmas Ilechukwu, the Convener of The Change We Need Nigeria Initiative (TCWNNI), has emphasized the need for Nigeria politicians to prioritize good governance over providing palliatives to the masses. The comment was made during the 14th edition of the TCWNNI Project held in Abuja.

According to Ilechukwu, Nigerians require good governance rather than palliatives to help cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal. He noted that if things are done well, palliatives are not necessary as they only satisfy people temporarily.

The General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries (CRM), argued that it is Nigerians’ right to demand accountability and good governance from their leaders at the federal and state levels. Politics is a social contract, and Nigerians expect elected officials to fulfill their responsibilities in serving the people. Let the commonwealth bequeathed to you be used for society’s benefit.

The cleric, however, remained optimistic and urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their prayers as God is faithful in answering them. The prayer programme aims to pray for the country so that its leaders would govern well for the benefit of the nation.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the event, Dr Robert Agbahia, reiterated that the TCWNNI Project is an annual event held every October to pray for Nigeria, hoping that her leaders would improve governance in the country. The event is a platform for Nigerians to voice their concerns and hold leaders accountable for their actions.

Ilechukwu’s statement is a reminder to politicians that their primary focus should be on delivering good governance and not using palliatives as a means to distract the people from their responsibilities.

With a population of over 200 million Nigerians, there are bound to be challenges, but these should not be a reason to abandon accountability and good governance.

Rather, they should serve as a motivation for leaders to do better. Nigerians deserve quality leadership, and it is up to the politicians to deliver on their promises.
