The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) Kano State gubernatorial candidate in the March 2023 election, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.

Salihu Tanko, who is popularly known as Dawisu, made this announcement in a social media post on his official Facebook page.

According to him, he decamps from the PRP to rejoin APC as requested by the party’s National Chairman oand immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

In his post, “The National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR, has requested that I return to the APC and continue to give my best in consolidating the gains of the party from top to bottom, which I have gladly accepted.

“I’ve withdrawn my membership from the PRP and will rejoin the APC,” he wrote.

Recall that Yakasai, who was a media aide and Director General, Media and Communications, to the then Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in March 2022.

Prior to his defection to the PRP, his principal, Ganduje, relieved Yakasai of his position after he criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

DailyNews24 reported that he said his exit from the APC was because “Buhari’s seven-year administration was a big failure.”

Salihu, who is the son of Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, the former Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to the late former President Shehu Shagari, noted that “Buhari failed on the campaign promises that brought him to power.”
