Ganduje meets Shekarau after APC refused to swear-in his chairmanship candidate

NEWS DIGEST – The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has led a delegation to the residence of the chairman of the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, for a reconciliation meeting with a faction led by the senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau  over protracted crisis rocking the party in Kano.

The meeting is coming a day after the national headquarters of the party refused to inaugurate the state chairman loyal to Mr Ganduje, Abdullahi Abbas.

The crisis had led to conduct of parallel ward, local government and state congresses, with Abdullahi Abbas emerging as state party chairman from Mr Ganduje’s camp and Ahmadu Danzago from Mr Shekarau’s camp.

On Tuesday last week, the reconciliation meeting was first held to reconcile two factions of the party in Kano, led by Mr Ganduje and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau respectively.

The meeting was postponed to enable the two factions to come up with a sharing formula of the party structure in Kano.

At the resumed sitting held Tuesday at the Yobe Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, Mr Shekarau led Senator Barau Jibrin, Reps Shaaban Sharada, Abdulkadir Jobe, Haruna Dederi, among other members of the camp to the meeting.

But Senator Kabiru Gaya; House Leader, Alhassan Doguwa and; chairman Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, Ali Wudil, who are from Mr Ganduje’s side, said they attended the meeting in their personal capacity not on behalf of the governor.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the governor’s absence and inability of either to propose a sharing formula or send a representation forced the meeting to end in stalemate.

The reconciliation panel, which includes Mai Mala Buni, former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and Senator Abba Aji, then adjourned the meeting sine die, and then gave the governor Thursday to schedule another meeting at his convenient date and time.

The latest meeting

At the reconciliation meeting held on Friday, the leaders of the two factions spoke and presented their proposals to the national leaders.

Inside sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the national leadership of the APC promised to study proposals on sharing formula tabled at the meeting and take a stand.

Sources however said it will be unlikely if any of the factions will accept the sharing formula they proposed to each other.

The meeting lasted for about six hours.
