The Federal Government and Labour representatives are meeting to examine potential interventions and palliatives to alleviate the high cost of living that has resulted from the removal of the fuel subsidy.

According to reports, the meeting that began this evening at 5:30 p.m. will see the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress continue talks aimed at increasing the minimum wage.

President Bola Tinubu expressed his readiness to endorse a raise in the minimum wage in the days leading up to his inauguration.

“You will have a living wage to have a decent life and provide for your families,” the President said during the Workers’ Day celebration.

Following his inauguration, the President announced that his administration would examine the minimum wage to reflect the times. “We need to do some arithmetic and soul-searching on the minimum wage,” he said.

The News Digest understands that Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, the presidents of the NLC and TUC, headed the delegations.

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Special Adviser on Revenue, Zacchaeus Adedeji, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachallom Daju, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari are also present.
