Femi Adesina Challenges Claims that Buhari Hasn’t Done Anything for Nigeria

NEWS DIGEST – Femi Adesina, President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has criticised the severe criticism of President Buhari’s government, claiming that no government has ever been able to tackle all of a country’s problems.

Last Sunday, Mr Adesina’s office produced a 91-page document detailing the president’s accomplishments since entering office in 2015.

Mr Adesina said he was taken aback by the number of initiatives completed by the president’s team by the time the document was produced.

He revealed that these initiatives span infrastructure such as rails, roads, bridges, and power, as well as presidential directives to strengthen the country’s business environment and digital economy, social investment and poverty alleviation programmes, legislative changes, and law and security reforms.

With President Muhammadu Buhari due to hand over the administration to President-elect Bola Tinubu in 24 days, Mr Adesina questioned why people believe that “President Muhammadu Buhari hasn’t done anything for Nigeria in eight years” since taking office.

According to the Spokesman, the recent completion of the 745-unit FHA Mass Housing Estate in Zuba demonstrated the President’s ongoing dedication to following through on his pledges until his final day in office.

President Buhari stated during the project’s commissioning that housing developments like Zuba provide employment opportunities in addition to providing infrastructure. “One of the measures that we have consciously deployed to attack poverty, create prosperity and develop our economy is the aggressive provision of infrastructure nationwide.”

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, stated that the government rallied to complete the 748 housing-unit project rather than abandon it for the next administration.

Mr Femi Adesina disclosed that the federal government contributed N7.5 billion of the N9.5 billion needed to finish the housing project. “This is despite the economic headwinds the Buhari administration had faced since inception.”

He went on to say that the Lagos-Ibadan Highway and the Second Niger Bridge will be completed before the administration leaves office on May 29.

“President Buhari has done his honest bit. He has succeeded well. And his footprints will be indelible on the sands of time,” he added.
