The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE).

This partnership aims to support the Ministry’s Labour and Employment Empowerment Programme (LEEP) with a goal of creating 2.5 million jobs. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Patience Onuobia, on Friday.

During the event in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, emphasized that the collaboration seeks to enhance employment opportunities and skill development in Nigeria, especially for youth and women.

The partnership will prioritize vocational, technical, and entrepreneurial skills essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

Onyejeocha highlighted that the initiative is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-point agenda, focusing on job creation, fostering innovation, enhancing productivity, and boosting global competitiveness. She stated, “The Ministry is dedicated to providing the necessary assets and infrastructure to support the training and certification of participants in this programme.

We recognize the importance of a skilled workforce in driving innovation, productivity, and competitiveness in the global market. With the support and expertise of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant, we are confident in our ability to achieve these ambitious goals.”

The Minister expressed her gratitude to Ms. Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, and her team for their collaboration.

She described the partnership as a significant milestone towards enhancing employment opportunities and skill development in Nigeria, anticipating remarkable results and setting a new benchmark for public sector collaboration.

Ms. Abiola Arogundade added that the collaboration has the potential to significantly increase the percentage of highly skilled individuals in Nigeria. She emphasized that this partnership would aid the Ministry in achieving its mandate of creating job opportunities and generating employment.

With this collaboration, Nigeria aims to advance its economic prospects by developing a highly skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and maintaining competitiveness in the global marketplace.
