Operatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command have apprehended six individuals involved in “one chance” robbery operations. The suspects—Abubakar Adams, Ismail Salisu, Yusuf Bello, Nasiru Saidi, Sani Usman, and Ibrahim Kasa—were nabbed by police attached to the Utako Divisional Headquarters on June 16, 2024.

According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Command, the arrests were made following credible intelligence and numerous complaints from victims. The suspects are accused of robbing passengers who boarded their vehicles, motorcycles, or tricycles, and then pushing them out while the vehicle is still in motion.

Adeh highlighted that weapons such as cutlasses, knives, and a stolen phone were recovered from the suspects. She further noted that the suspects have confessed to the crimes, admitting to robbing victims of their mobile phones, money, gadgets, and other valuables.

While investigations are ongoing, CP Benneth Igweh, Commissioner of Police for FCT, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities using police emergency lines.

This incident follows a similar crackdown in May 2024, where the FCT Police Command dismantled a car theft syndicate operating between Abuja and Lagos. CP Benneth Igweh disclosed that the syndicate was busted after a victim’s friend spotted the stolen vehicle for sale in Lagos and alerted the police. Detectives recovered the car despite alterations to its chassis and arrested the criminals involved.
