The six area councils and other stakeholders have received N6,316,621,045.37 billion from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as a statutory allocation for March 2024.

By comparison, the amount is a geometric increase of about 40% from the  N3,938,092,102.92 billion shared in February 2024.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory who chaired the 188th Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC), expressed her happiness with the increase.

She therefore pleaded with the Area Council Authorities to start worthwhile projects in order to justify the monthly allocation.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by her Special Assistant Media, Austine Elemue, the minister said: “The allocation to the area councils as it stands today goes beyond payment of staff salaries. It is, therefore, high time for the chairmen to embark on people-oriented projects to justify the resources that go to the councils”.

A breakdown of the numbers disclosed at the JAAC meeting, however, shows that N2,502,577,093.87 billion was made available to other stakeholders, bringing the total amount to N6,316,621,045.37 billion. The amount of N3,814,043,951.50 billion was made available for distribution to the six area councils.
