To increase food production, the Niger State government has started distributing agriculture inputs and necessary equipment to 2,384 farmers.

On Tuesday in Minna, Governor Umaru Bago announced that the distribution was the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) Result Area 2.

In order to transform the state’s economy, Mr. Bago urged everyone to embrace farming as part of the New Niger Agenda, which was advocated by his deputy, Yakubu Garba.

“Distribution of these inputs is a demonstration of our commitment to a New Niger Agenda, and the objective is to diversify our economy and ensure food security.

“The governor has introduced a mechanised farming system in the state; we should utilise the God-given potential to make the state a competitive one in wealth creation,” he said.

He revealed that providing basic resources and equipment was a first step in changing the agriculture industry by attracting farmers to the state.

He counseled recipients to take advantage of the chance to integrate contemporary farming methods into their operations in order to build a sustainable future for both the state and themselves.

Salihu Bawa, Niger’s Commissioner for Agriculture, earlier stated that 1,951 crops, 133 aquaculture, and 300 poultry will assist 2,384 farmers.

He stated that 1,951 liters of herbicide and pesticide, 17.03 mt of rice, 3,902 mt of maise and sorghum seeds, and 292.65 mt of NPK and urea fertilisers will all be used to assist farmers’ under crops.

Mr. Bawa further mentioned that 15,000 day-old chicks, 26,600 fingerlings, and 1.732 tons of various feeds will be provided to those under poultry and aquaculture.

He stated that labor-intensive infrastructure was being renovated and that as part of the incentive, 10,487 people—7,505 men and 2,982 women—would have access to agricultural infrastructure.

2,183 beneficiaries would receive agricultural, productive, and processing assets, according to the commissioner.
