The Partnership for Initiative in Niger Delta (PIND) has revealed its support for over 49,000 farmers with billions of naira across three Niger Delta states – Ondo, Edo, and Delta in 2023.

This assistance extends to individuals in the small and medium-scale enterprises sector, with a substantial sum of N10 billion allocated for this purpose.

In a statement issued by PIND’s Executive Director, Mr. Tunji Idowu, and made available to our correspondent on Wednesday in Akure, the organization highlighted its ongoing intervention in the development of the Niger Delta region.

Idowu explained that one of the foundation’s most impactful initiatives in 2023 was working with approximately 100 service providers through its Market Systems Development project to support over 49,000 farmers, with 46.35 per cent being females.

The cumulative investments by PIND-supported farmers and MSMEs were recorded at over N10 billion.

Despite socio-economic challenges such as rising inflation and foreign exchange rate fluctuations affecting purchasing power in the country, PIND remains committed to exceeding expectations in delivering its mission to facilitate peace and equitable economic growth in the Niger Delta.

Idowu emphasized, “The year 2023 saw us exceeding expectations and achieving several milestones as we consolidated our previous work and successes while exploring new opportunities.”

Originating in 2010 by providing grants to other implementers, PIND has evolved into a pivotal resource, convener, and implementer of development programs and projects for other donors in the region.

The organization has accomplished its projects through robust programs focused on community-driven, research-backed needs: prosperity and peace through economic growth and peacebuilding.

Idowu further noted that PIND had consolidated all achievements from its previous and ongoing work in the Niger Delta while exploring new opportunities for improving livelihoods and ensuring lasting peace in the once conflict-ridden region.
