Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has initiated a decisive strategy aimed at eradicating touting, extortion, and other illicit activities at airports.

In a recent interview, Kuku expressed deep concern over the persistent harassment and extortion of passengers, stressing her dedication to enhancing a seamless and pleasant travel experience.

Under her leadership, FAAN has launched a robust campaign to crackdown on these illegal practices. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties at FAAN, has been appointed as the chairman of a dedicated task force established for this purpose. Kuku also announced her intention to personally engage with all government agencies operating at airports to ensure strict compliance with anti-touting and anti-extortion measures.

Issuing a stern warning to all airport personnel, including FAAN staff, Kuku emphasized that stringent disciplinary measures would be enforced against anyone found involved in illicit activities. She underscored the administration’s zero-tolerance stance towards misconduct, declaring an end to business as usual.

In a move to expedite legal proceedings against offenders, Kuku revealed plans to establish magistrate courts at international airports. The task force’s mandate includes fostering discipline among airport staff and promoting a culture of professionalism across all operational levels.

To enhance passenger feedback mechanisms, FAAN will introduce dedicated phone lines and QR codes. Kuku stressed the mandatory display of on-duty cards and name tags by all airport personnel for easy identification and accountability.

This initiative reflects FAAN’s commitment to ensuring transparency, efficiency, and safety within Nigeria’s airport operations, aligning with broader efforts to improve service delivery and passenger satisfaction.
