The Enugu State government has restructured its project monitoring and evaluation teams.

As announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chidiebere Onyia, during an interactive session held in Enugu on Saturday with contractors overseeing Smart Schools and Type II Primary Health Care facilities in the state.

Mr Onyia disclosed that the restructuring aims to guarantee the realisation of all objectives set forth by the projects since their inception.

He further explained that the restructuring aims to ensure that all projects are completed to the highest standards and within the designated time frame.

Also, he revealed the establishment of three separate monitoring and evaluation teams to oversee this process.

According to him, these include a five-man team of local government technical staff listed by the head of personnel management, Enugu State Universal Basic Education board.

Others are the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Project Development Implementation, and the SSG, all commissioners and special advisers on revenue.

Mr Onyia warned that any contractor doing shoddy jobs or compromising qualities would be penalised.

He stressed that ministry staff must review and certify every stage of work, checking every milestone to meet the standard before proceeding to the next level.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Gerald Otiji, advised the contractors to take responsibility for their projects and work to attain Governor Peter Mbah’s desired dream.

The contractors, including Chinedu Ani, Ugochukwu Nnaji, and Jude Olijioh, promised to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the projects in a cost-effective manner.

They attested their obligation to the state and people of ‘Ndi Enugu’ and not just as contractors for profit.
