The Kano State government has decided to recall the convoy of Aminu Bayero, the deposed emir of Kano, due to his reported intention of returning to his palace on Thursday.

Mr. Bayero had traveled to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to meet with Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of the Ijebu Kingdom, in order to seek President Bola Tinubu’s intervention regarding the plan to remove him.

The overthrown king was attempting to take advantage of the 48-hour window granted by Governor Abba Yusuf by going back to the palace to pack out his possessions and other personal items.

But sources said the state government stopped the emir’s move and asked security operatives to stop him from boarding flight to Kano.

The move was stopped by the government to prevent a collapse in the state’s law and order, a state government source informed DAILY NIGERIAN.

“When we learnt of his plan to return to the palace, we ordered all the vehicles in the convoy to return to the palace. The vehicles were already in the Kano airport awaiting his return.

“And we also drew the attention of security agents to thwart his plans of flying back to Kano at the moment,” said the source.

Earlier on Thursday, the state governor assented to Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment number 2) Law, 2024.

The creation of the state’s five Emirate councils—Kano, Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya—was outlawed by the modified law. In the presence of Speaker Isma’il Falgore, SSG Abdullahi Bichi, deputy governor Aminu Abdulsalam, and the governor, the bill was signed into law.

The governor, who was ousted by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2019, declared Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll’s reinstatement in remarks made following the signing.

The deposed emirs were given 48 hours by the governor to leave their palaces.
