Ekiti 2018: Buhari, Fayose clash over Fayemi

NEWS DIGEST – As the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti draws nearer, heated preparations have started over who becomes the Governor of the State between the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (Prof Olusola Eleka) and the All Progressive Congress (Kayode Fayemi), with a clash between the President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.

President Buhari in a Tweet monitored by The News Digest had wished Fayemi well in the upcoming elections while labeling him as a reformist .The tweet read:

“Congratulations to @kfayemi on winning the APC ticket to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship elections in Ekiti State. I have no doubt that Dr Fayemi’s track record as a reformist—with a passion for education, health and welfare—will stand him in good stead in the elections.”

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti however had none of this as he asked the President to reserve the seat of the Minister of Solid Minerals in the Federal Executive council meeting and be ready for another defeat. Fayose said:

“President Buhari congratulating Fayemi on his emergence as APC candidate is like day-dreaming. He will suffer another major defeat on July 14. Rather than congratulating him, the President should reserve his seat at the FEC because this desperation to be Ekiti gov is
dead on arrival”.

Fayemi is a one time Governor of Ekiti State but lost his reelection bid to Fayose.

The Election is set to hold in July as both parties continue to bicker on who emerges to rule the state.
