Three suspects, impersonating officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have been apprehended by the Abia State police. The suspects are accused of robbing students at gunpoint at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU) in Umudike.

Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the Abia State police command, revealed that the arrests were made following reports of robberies carried out by individuals dressed in EFCC uniforms.

The suspects were apprehended at the Man-O-War base in MOUAU. The police disclosed it received information about a four-man gang, dressed in EFCC uniforms, robbing students at their residences on Tuesday.

The robbers reportedly seized phones from students and coerced them into transferring N120,000 to various bank accounts.

Upon conducting a thorough investigation and visiting the crime scene, the police successfully apprehended the suspects at the MOUAU Man-O-War base.

Six stolen phones, the robbers’ operational tricycle, four EFCC jackets, two EFCC ID cards, one toy gun, and four EFCC search warrants were recovered and confiscated.

Chinaka emphasized that investigations into the matter are ongoing. “Abia people are advised to be security-sensitive and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately, whether the suspect is in uniform or not.”
