As their riders won the first gold and bronze medals in the cycling competition of the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba on Sunday, Team Edo displayed excellent performance.

In the female division of the 40Km road race cycling competition, the team took home the medals.

Divine Ogbe, a young cyclist from Nigeria, won the gold medal ahead of Atanda Damola Hikmat of Kwara, while Osaretin Godwin, another member of her team, settled for the bronze.

An emotional Ogbe dedicated her victory to her teammate Godwin and her coaches.

“I thought I was not going to make it. I want to say thank you to my teammate, Osaretin, and our coaches. The contest was not easy,” She said.

In the handball event, Edo beat Plateau 21-15 in their first match to advance to the quarter-finals.
