The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for calm among its members following a High Court judgment in Abuja that nullified the party’s primary election held in Benin on February 22.

In a statement on Thursday, state party chairman Tony Aziegbemi affirmed that Asue Ighodalo remains the PDP candidate for the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja voided the February 2024 primary election that produced Ighodalo, citing the unlawful exclusion of 378 delegates who were supposed to vote.

However, the PDP has reassured its members that there is no need for concern.

The statement read, “The PDP is aware that certain elements, fearful of our candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s growing popularity, are spreading rumors about the nullification of his candidature. Let it be clear that Dr. Asue Ighodalo remains our flag bearer for the 2024 elections.

The judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja does not affect his candidature.”

The party urged its supporters to stay calm and steadfast, emphasizing that there is no cause for alarm.
