The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has voiced his concern over the recurring destruction of his campaign billboards throughout the state.

Mr Shiabu emphasized that the decision of who becomes the next governor should be left to the electorate of the state.

Shaibu described the incident as “unfortunate” during his visit to the site where one of his campaign billboards had been demolished.

While addressing the public in Hausa, Yoruba, and Esan languages, the Deputy Governor revealed that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred. He mentioned that his campaign billboards had been removed from the same place twice before.

“This kind of ugly development is capable of scaring private investors from Edo State. This is why we have to be very careful as a government and individuals in our actions,” he said.

Shaibu also said that he had taken all necessary measures to secure the stands for his campaign billboards since June. He went on to say that he had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the owners and had paid for all the billboards across Edo state.

In response to the destruction, Shaibu announced that the billboard would be replaced as soon as possible and expressed optimism that it would not be tampered with again.

“We have been patient enough; they must not provoke us. Our patience must not be taken for granted,” he warned.
