In order to protect farmers, the Association consequently urged the government and security personnel to step up their efforts to fortify rural communities.

Hajiya Laraba Amina Abdul, the association’s chairperson, made the announcement at the sales of fertilizer and other agricultural supplies for the 2023–2024 dry season farming, which were conducted at the Farmer’s Unity Hall in Jalingo.

According to her, the state of Taraba has become unsafe for agricultural activity in several areas due to the instability situation.

“Insecurity has led to farmers being unable to access their farms, which has resulted in decline in food production and therefore, there is urgent need to address the problem,” she said.

In addition to insecurity, the chairperson stated that farmers have other issues that must be addressed.

According to her, access to financing, modern farming equipment, and extension service personnel—who are meant to guide farmers toward contemporary farming techniques—are among the major difficulties faced by farmers.

Laraba clarified that as part of its effort to promote food security in the nation, AFAN in Taraba State supports farmers and enhances agricultural output.

“Our association has partnered with Global Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited to provide farmers with fertiliser and other farm inputs at subsidized rate,” she said.

She revealed that the organization has also taught farmers contemporary farming methods and is pushing the government to take greater action to solve the problems that farmers face.
