Suspected bandits have abducted a driver and three passengers traveling to Irun Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6pm on Saturday as the victims were en route to Irun through Imesi town, a border community between Ekiti and Ondo states.

The kidnapped individuals were mostly residents of Irun and Ikare Akoko, returning home from a function. While details about the kidnapping remain sketchy, joint security operatives have launched a search operation in the bush for the victims.

A top security source stated that efforts are underway, with the collaboration of a local vigilante group, to rescue the victims. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami, mentioned that she has not yet been briefed about the case but assured that details would be provided when available.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, stated that his team, along with soldiers from Ekiti, are combing the forest. He clarified that although the bandits did not abduct all 18 passengers in the bus, some managed to escape while others were rescued by security personnel during the night. Search efforts are ongoing.
