The Labour Party (LP) has strongly refuted the news circulating that it is engaging in a merger arrangement with a political structure. In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, it was clarified that the report is distorted and sensationalized by a particular group aiming to discredit the party.

Ifoh emphasized that a news organization had sought a reaction to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s proposal for opposition political parties to unite against a one-party system in Nigeria. In response, LP made it clear that it was only a proposal and stressed the importance of every Nigerian’s involvement in making democracy function effectively, highlighting the concern that the current era leans towards autocracy. However, there was no mention of any merger between LP and PDP in their response.

Ifoh mentioned that LP had recently concluded the 2023 general election and a postmortem analysis of the party’s performance was yet to take place. Therefore, the party’s future course of action had not yet been discussed. He assured that once these deliberations occur, the public will be duly informed.

Furthermore, Ifoh urged Nigerians to dismiss such news and any others that may be similarly misleading. He pointed out that the party possesses its official platform through which accurate information can be disseminated.
