Dele Momodu: Rivers State Political Feud Rooted in Control of Treasury

Dele Momodu, a seasoned journalist has offered insights into the ongoing feud between Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that the root cause of their political rivalry stems from the desire to control Rivers State’s treasury.

Momodu made these remarks during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday night.

The tension between Fubara and Wike has persisted since the governor assumed office on May 29, 2023, affecting various levels of governance, including the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and state commissioners aligned with both factions.

Despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate the conflict and broker a peace pact, the hostility between the two parties and their supporters has endured.

Speaking on the fight, Momodu said: “They are fighting in Rivers because of politics only. They also need the money in Rivers.

“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him also to get hold of the state to not only give them votes, but a structure of money, structure of having direct access to the treasury Rivers State plays an important role in election in Nigeria.”
