In a disturbing resurgence of cult violence, three individuals fell victim to a brutal attack by suspected cult members in Ijanikin, Lagos.

This incident, occurring on New Year’s Day, marks the latest escalation in a series of violent clashes that have plagued the area for the past five months.

Among the casualties is the son of Alhaji Adio, a prominent figure in Ijanikin, brutally hacked to death near Owoseni Street, mere meters away from the local police station.

This grim event follows the heinous murder of a police inspector in the same locale five months prior. The community, gripped by fear, witnessed traders hastily closing shops as they sought refuge from the escalating cult war.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, reported the arrest of one suspect, Abubakar Yahaya Ibrahim, in the Egbo-Elerin area of Ojo. Ibrahim, 32, was apprehended with a locally made double gun, along with expended and live cartridges recovered from his possession.

Two other suspects managed to evade capture during the police intervention at the street carnival venue where the clash originated.

“The hoodlums always used the opportunity to rob people of their belongings. It took time before the police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control,” he added. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said one Abubakar Yahaya Ibrahim was arrested the same day at the Egbo-Elerin area of Ojo.

“A locally made double gun, some expensed and live cartridges were recovered from a bag found in his possession,” he added.
