As part of its initiative to strengthen the fight in the war against COVID-19, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), has given $100 million to aid its member state buy medical resources, through the Africa Medical Supplies Platform (AMSP).

This funding is made available through African governments, to procure medical supplies, through the AMSP, as pre-approved overdraft limits for each African government.
This facility expedites access to critical COVID-19 containment and medical supplies, by bridging funding gaps, which African states may be experiencing.

The AMSP was launched in June and developed by the African Union’s Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Afreximbank and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), under the leadership of the African Union Special Envoy for COVID-19 procurements, Mr. Strive Masiyiwa.
