Correctional service, soldiers, vigilantes Apprehends Armed Robbers in Edo State

The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante operatives, apprehended two suspected armed robbers in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Aminu Sumaila Suleman, the suspects are part of a criminal group terrorizing the area and its surroundings.

They were captured by a joint team comprising the Correctional Armed Squad Personnel, Nigerian Army personnel stationed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, and local vigilante members.

Deputy Controller of Corrections, Julius Osemwegie, reported that the suspects were caught at the scene of the crime following a distress call about robbery activities near the custodial centre.

After a gun battle, the suspects were subdued and arrested. They have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Ubiaja divisional office for further investigation.

Items recovered from the suspects include a locally made pistol, live ammunition, a knife, torchlight, a mask, and objects suspected to be charms.

The Controller of Corrections, Edo State Command, Emehinola Philomena, praised the joint efforts of the security personnel for enhancing security in their respective areas of assignment.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration among various security agencies in the state and warned criminals to stay away from Custodial Centres and operate anywhere in the state.

She assured citizens of the state of the commitment of security agencies, supported by the Edo State Government, to combat crime and urged them to provide useful information to security agencies.
