NEWS DIGEST– Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has recently handed over cheques to the first 10 beneficiaries of the Nigeria Army Personal Insurance Scheme.

This initiative aims to provide financial security and support to the families of military personnel who have lost their lives while in active service.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of Army Public Relations, explained that this gesture demonstrates the Nigeria Army’s gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by its personnel in defending the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

He also emphasized the commitment and capabilities of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for good governance and socio economic development.

The COAS distributed the cheques and delivered an affirmation during the closure of the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2023 at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Asokoro, Abuja on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

General Lagbaja stressed that the briefings and presentations given during the conference have highlighted the tasks and challenges that the Nigerian Army will face. 

He called on all formation commanders to strategize and take decisive action against the nation’s adversaries.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the decisions made during the conference will motivate the Army to redefine its training and operational activities in order to achieve positive outcomes. The conference also provided a crucial opportunity to review the Nigerian Army’s training, operational, and administrative activities, which directly impact national security.
