Car, cash reward for Dahiru Buba, five years after 550km solidarity walk for Buhari
NEWS DIGEST – Five years after walking 15 days from Gombe to Abuja in solidarity for President Buhari, 50 years-old Dahiru Buba has finally gotten his “worthy reward”—a car and N2 million in cash.
Dahiru, who suffered limb complications from the exercise, was gifted the car and cash reward yesterday by Governor Muhammed Yahaya at the Gombe governor’s lodge in Abuja.
The reward comes days after Dahiru had pleaded with the governor for a reward worthy of his feat because people were taunting him for trekking without getting any.
“I want to also call on the government to please buy me a house because the house I stay in Dukku LGA is not mine. This is a way for the government to intervene and make people making fun of me to shut up,” Dahiru told The Punch.
On the gift presented to Dahiru, Governor Yahaya noted that Dahiru’s solidarity walk had placed him in good stead and the All Progressive Congress, APC, couldn’t watch such level of “patriotism” go unappreciated.

“So, on learning about his condition, first I directed that he should be taken to the hospital for proper medical attention and I am happy that he is now better after undergoing his first round of treatment,” Governor Yahaya said.
“As far as we are concerned in the APC and in this administration, no genuine effort or sacrifice will go unrewarded, no matter how long it takes.
“So, on behalf of our dear President and our beloved party, we say a big thank you for your show of support and solidarity,” he added.
Governor Yahaya expressed optimism that the cash reward will enable Dahiru to finally own his house after he revealed that his home in Dukki LGA wasn’t his own.
The governor also mentioned that Dahiru, a commercial driver before his complications worsened, was given a car to help his means of livelihood.
An emotional Dahiru thanked President Buhari and Governor Yahaya for their support and reiterated his love for the president and the APC—a party with whom he is a card-carrying member.
Dahiru would also mention how motivated the rewards rendered him and assured that they will be used cautiously.
