Olayemi Cardoso is being considered for the role of substantive Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Senate has started the screening process.

The Senate is also reviewing the nominations of four deputy governors for the apex bank.

Emem Nnana Usoro, Philip Ikeazor, Bala Bello, and Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo are the candidates for deputy governor.

The screening process was initiated following a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu approved the nomination of  Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria pending his confirmation by the Senate.

Last week, Cardoso assumed duty as the CBN governor in an acting capacity pending his screening and expected confirmation by the Senate.
