President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed ACM Shehu Mohammed as the new Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). The announcement was made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, in a letter dated Monday, May 20, 2024.

The letter stated that Mohammed’s appointment isbyh Section 7(1) of the Federal Road Safety Commission Act, 2007, and takes effect from May 20, 2024, according to The Nation. Shehu Mohammed succeeds Dauda Ali Biu as FRSC Corps Marshal.

The Director of Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, confirmed the appointment in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, May 22. Imohiosen noted that the appointment is for an initial period of four years, in line with the relevant provisions of the Act establishing the Commission.

President Tinubu has tasked Mohammed with leveraging his extensive experience to enhance the FRSC’s operations. According to the FRSC’s website, the agency was initially established by the Federal Government in February 1988 through Decree No. 45, later amended by Decree 35 of 1992, and is now governed by the FRSC Act Cap 141 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN), passed by the National Assembly as the Federal Road Safety Commission (Establishment) Act 2007.
