On Thursday, the Federal Government began the reconstruction and expansion of the Sango Ota-Idiroko Expressway.

The project involves demolishing several buildings to make way for the improvement of the deteriorating 64-kilometre road.

Local sources reported that residents, including landlords and tenants of the affected buildings, were powerless to stop the demolitions. “Buildings are being demolished from Oju-Ore in Ota towards the border, extending from Oju-Ore to Owode-Atan and up to the Idiroko border,” one resident shared via WhatsApp.

This development follows an appeal by the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) on Monday, urging the Federal Government to urgently reconstruct the collapsed Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway.

NAOSS President Kehinde Thomas specifically called on the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to fulfill the Federal Government’s promise to rehabilitate the expressway.
