Breaking: Unidentified Explosion Leads to Loss of Lives and Properties in Ibadan

Several residents of Ibadan have reported loss of lives and damages to properties due to a yet-to-be-identified explosion that occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday.

The explosion, which took place in the Bodija region of the Oyo state capital according to eyewitnesses, has caused extensive damage to landmarks within the area.

Ace Mall and Domino’s Pizza are some of the landmarks reported to have suffered considerable damage due to the explosion. Some other residents have reported damages such as shattering of windows and in extreme cases the pulling down of their apartment ceiling.

Medical personnel have been captured in videos shared on X transporting two non-moving bodies, presumed to be fatalities, in an ambulance.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown as of Tuesday evening, adding to the distress and uncertainty among residents of the state.

Reacting to the incident, DSP Adewale Osifeso, the state Police Public Relations Officer, in a brief release expressed, “Explosion around Dejo Oyelese Street Bodija Ibadan at 7:44 pm today, Tuesday 17/01/2024.

“The cause of the explosion is unknown. Number of dead and injured yet unknown as search continues.

He added that the command has ample deployment to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

The Oyo state government has called for calm among residents as security agencies continue to investigate the source and cause of the incident.

“The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan,” a statement shared on Twitter read in part.
