No fewer than 24 persons have tragically lost their lives in a boat mishap that occurred in Gbajibo, a close-knit community nestled within Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

The victims, who are predominantly farmers, hailed from Gbajibo, Ekwa, and Yankeiade, villages that are an integral part of the Mokwa LGA.

Speaking to newsmen, Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, the council Chairman of Mokwa Local Government Area, described the incident as a devastating occurrence that has shattered the community.

Muregi disclosed that efforts by local divers have led to the recovery of 21 lifeless bodies so far, but the rescue operation continues in a race against time to save those who are still trapped in the waters.

As investigations into the incident continue, as the exact number of passengers on board the ill-fated boat remains a baffling mystery, leaving the community and authorities anxiously awaiting answers.
