NEWS DIGEST- About 11 people have lost their lives in a boat accident that took place on Monday, September 11 in Kwatan Mallam Adamu, located in Gurin village of the Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

The accident occurred when farmers were returning from their farms and a strong wind and thunderstorm caused the boat to capsize. Reports suggest that 20 people are missing. This accident occurred just two days after the tragic incident in the Benue River, which also resulted in several deaths. Authorities are urging operators of inland waterways to avoid overloading boats during periods of bad weather, while residents are calling on the government to provide lifejackets for passengers.

He said, ” The latest deadly boat capsize happened on Monday afternoon when farmers were scampering to reach home to escape the coming rains.

“About 40 passengers including women and children crammed into the boat to get home before today’s downpour.

“Unfortunately, midway, strong wind and thunderstorm set in, causing the boat to capsize. 20 persons are believed to be missing.

He said, “There was a boat capsize in Gurin, because when it happened, they called to inform me. But I can’t give the exact casualty unless I get the report of my assessment team.”
