Benin Republic’s ex-president accuses Saudi Arabia, Qatar of sponsoring Boko Haram
NEWS DIGEST – A former president of Benin Republic, Nicephore Soglo has accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of funding Boko Haram.
Boko Haram has grown to constitute a threat to the Western African Region, especially Nigeria, Chad, Cameroun and Nigeria. It started in Borno State of Nigeria in 2009.
Also, Islamic State in West Africa Province, ISWAP, which is an affiliation of the Islamic State in the Middle-East, is a potent threat to the security of the region.
Mr Soglo who spoke at the constitutional term limits summit in Naimey, Niger Republic, said Africans must stand united to solve their own problems.

He said Africa, and West Africa in particular, must work at solving it is own problems and that it should be able to identify its real friends.
“Boko Haram is funded by our friends from Saudi Arabia and our friends from Qatar. Are we friends or not? Let’s tell ourselves the truth. We have to stand together,” he said.
“I’m optimistic we are going to win if we stand together.”
The ongoing summit is organised by the National Democratic Institute, NDI.
A former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan is one of the speakers.
Born on November 29, 1934, Mr Saglo was the Beninese Prime Minister from 1990 to 1991 and president from 1991 to 1996. He was Mayor of Cotonou from 2003 to 2015.
NDI, however, is a non-partisan and non-profit organisation that works with partners in developing countries to increase the effectiveness of democratic institutions.
Other former leaders at the summit are Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Amos Sawyer, Mahamane Ousmane and Catherine Samba-Panza.
