In a collaborative effort with UNICEF, Bauchi State Government deploys enumerators to 20 local councils, aiming to enroll the reported 1.2 million kids currently out of school. Governor Bala Mohammed’s education committee, led by Emir Adamu Rilwanu, has already seen over 18,000 children returning to classrooms.

The enumeration process involves families providing data to assist in strategic planning, with parents expressing willingness to overcome economic challenges to ensure their children’s education. UNICEF and the state government deploy 325 enumerators and 40 supervisors for a comprehensive survey to determine the actual number of out-of-school children and develop effective plans to reduce this figure.

“I have been going from door to door, meeting parents for the information. They have been cooperating and are glad to enroll their kids in school. Although some of them are giving economic hardship as an excuse to keep their children out of school.”

“In my own case, I am 77 years, but I just finished secondary school in 2007 when I have wives and children. I will not want a similar situation for my kids,” Sani said.
