Bandits have kidnapped at least 55 wedding guests in Damari town, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State. These guests were part of a convoy escorting a bride home.

A resident, according to Politics Nigeria, stated that the incident took place around 9pm on Thursday, February 1.

During the emergency rescue efforts, three local security volunteers tragically lost their lives.

The source explained that the bandits primarily targeted those crowded in an open van, known as a canter vehicle.

“The victims were initially over 70, mostly friends to the bride, in which several others escaped after jumping off the moving canter van when the terrorists hijacked the van,” the source observed.

There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that a few kidnapped women managed to escape. The chairman said that he will verify these reports and provide updates.

He clarified that the women, originally from Dandume, were intercepted by the bandits on their way from Sabuwa Local Government Area at around 9pm.
