Armed bandits allegedly attacked and killed six soldiers in the communities of Roro, Karaga, and Rumace in Bassa Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Friday night.

During the incident, a captain was reportedly abducted. While the soldiers had departed from their camps in Allawa and Erena to answer a distress call when they were ambushed by the bandits in Roro village.

According to a report from the Daily Trust, the bandits are said to have killed a hunter and two farmers, and they also set fire to houses, food storage facilities, and motorcycles.

Daily Trust reported that “On March 14, at least 17 senior military officers, including 13 soldiers, two majors and one captain, from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, who were deployed on a peace-keeping mission to quell community clashes, were killed by suspected residents of Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Similarly, it also made known that the military reported last year that three officers and 22 soldiers were killed during a bandit ambush in Niger State on August 13.

Residents interviewed about the recent soldiers’ killing stated that it occurred around 9 pm on Friday and lasted for several hours.

According to the report, six soldiers lost their lives and one volunteer hunter.
