NEWS DIGEST – Following the investigation by THE NEWS DIGEST over plans by Obafemi Awolowo university (OAU) management to turn a female hostel built with the Needs Assessment Funds to a private hostel, which according to the Vice chancellor Eyitope Ogunbodede would be leased out for a while before the Varsity Management will get it back.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Obafemi Awolowo university chapter said it had petitioned the university to query such act.
In the two-part investigation, this Newspaper revealed how the Federal Government provided funds for hostels and other revelations.
Speaking to this Newspaper on efforts so far, the Academic staff Union of Universities Obafemi Awolowo University Chapter chairman, Adeola Egbedokun said the Union has petitioned the Vice Chancellor but has gotten no reply thus far.
In his words: “We have written a letter to the Varsity on the development but we are yet to get any corresponding reply to our enquiry, that is not just the only letter we have written,we have other ones too that they have failed to reply us,” he told this Newspaper.
The hostel which is located around Parakin in Ile-Ife, was meant to be allocated to students but the Varsity claim to be broke and said it needed money hence the need to lease it out.
