ASUU splits into four factions at FUOYE

NEWS DIGEST–Following the leadership crisis in the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Federal University, Oye Ekiti, (FUOYE) Ekiti State, the union has split into four splinter groups.
The splinter groups are Academic Staff Concerned Group; Congress of Nigerian Academics; New Academic Staff Union of FUOYE and the Remnant of ASUU.
CASUU Chairman, Prof Sola Omotola; and spokesman, Dr Wasiu Oyedokun-Ali, who made the disclosure in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said, “On Friday, November 30, 2018, the CNA was officially inaugurated in FUOYE to the admiration of its members. At the inauguration, a new faction christened NASUFUOYE made an appearance with their banners. Whereas ASUU remains, it is deeply embattled.’
According to them, the split followed irreconcilable differences between the majority of the lecturers and a group loyal to the embattled FUOYE ASUU Chairman, Dr Akinyemi Omonijo.
Trouble in the institution came to the fore in October when Omonijo, in company with ASUU Akure Zone, addressed journalists, highlighting problems of the university, a decision which other FUOYE lecturers were opposed to, saying the ASUU Akure zone distorted facts and the chairman did not carry members along.
