The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja chapter, has awarded scholarships to seven indigent students of the institution.

ASUU Chairman of the chapter, Sylvanus Ugoh, presented the 2024 Indigent Students Scholarship Award while stating that it was one of the union’s efforts to help the less privileged students.

Ugoh informed the beneficiaries of the scholarship that it would support them to complete their education and make contributions to both domestic and global development as he gave them letters and checks.

According to him, the scholarship award is given out every year to the institution’s deserving but underprivileged students.

“In the course of selecting these sets of students, we have come to realise that there are so many of them on the campuses, but we know we cannot take all of them at once, and we have to do the little we can.

“We want to use it to encourage the people around and also prove to the people that ASUU is not all about strikes but also touching lives,” he said.

He urged other kind-hearted Nigerians to help many young students who are facing challenges on their university campuses.

He said several screening stages and application processing were used in the selection process to make sure the right people were chosen.

According to him, the university chapter donated N50,000 to each of the other five beneficiaries of the scholarship, while the ASUU national body gave N200,000 to each of the other two.

The beneficiaries, on their part, expressed gratitude to the national and the UNIABUJA chapter for providing them with the scholarship and promised to spend it wisely.
