According to the 3rd Brigade Nigeria Army, Kano, there have been no reports of banditry, kidnapping, or high-level criminal activity by non-state actors in Kano or the surrounding area.

This was said by Brigade Commander Brigadier General Jamiu Olayinka during a courtesy visit from members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Kano Correspondents Chapel on Wednesday at the Bukavu Barrack.

“I am happy to tell you that we have been able to record zero cases of kidnapping and banditry in Kano and its environs,” he said.

He said they were able to sustain peace in Kano as a result of the Joint Security Taskforce activities as well as the synergy that exist among security agencies in the state.

“In Kano, the synergy we have with other Security Agencies has yielded positive results and continues to make it easy for us to keep the State safer than ever before,” he said.

In the same vein, General Olayinka noted that the cooperation and understanding they are receiving from the Kano people in terms of intelligence gathering has made their jobs much easier.

Prior to today, Olayinka explained, they faced significant problems with local government areas bordering bandit-infested states such as Bauchi, Katsina, and others; however, through information collecting and cooperation, they were able to guarantee calm in those areas.

According to him, their efforts at Falgore Forest have successfully stopped the influx of non-State Actors into Kano and the surrounding area, and drivers are now able to use the route without fear.

The commanding commander clarified that the primary responsibility of the military is to defend people and property, and that they would also maintain calm in Kano, where they had jurisdiction.

Prior to this, State Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel Aminu Garko stated that they are prepared to collaborate on information sharing with the military and any other security authorities.

Garko said that the media’s goal is development, not destruction, and he praised the Brigade Commander for trying his hardest to bring about much more peace in Kano.
