The All Progressives Congress (APC) executives of Umon North Ward in Cross River State have indefinitely suspended Helen Isamoh Egodo, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs.

She was suspended over alleged gross misconduct.

The announcement came from Umon North Ward APC Chairman, Mr. Igobi Kanu Ettan, and other ward executives on Tuesday.

A five-member fact-finding committee, established in accordance with Article 21, B of the APC Constitution, investigated the allegations against the commissioner.

Ettan stated, “Following the provisions of Article 21 (A) v & x of the APC 2014 Constitution, as amended, and to enforce Article 21 (B) i & iv and Article 21 c, the party has confirmed the commissioner’s indefinite suspension.”

The commissioner reportedly sent abusive messages to the former chairman of Biase Local Government Council, Ada Charles, and other ward leaders after an argument.

Despite several invitations from the committee to explain her actions, Egodo claimed the invitations were an attempt to kidnap her and reported this to the State Police Headquarters.

Subsequently, the Police detained ward executive members, charging them with attempted kidnapping.

Former state deputy chairman and secretary of the party, Mr. Eka Williams, and Barr Bassey Mensah intervened, instructing the commissioner to apologize to the council chairman, ward executives, and party leaders in Umon North and to withdraw the police complaint.

However, despite efforts from party leaders, Egodo allegedly continued to misuse her position, leading to the arrest of fact-finding committee member, Mr. Effiong Emmanuel, who has been in custody for three weeks on kidnapping allegations.

In response, the APC Umon North Ward executive reaffirmed Egodo’s indefinite suspension to maintain discipline.
