Alleged organ harvesting: Plateau police arrest 2 more doctors

The Plateau State Police Command on Tuesday said it arrested two doctors who are believed to be accomplices of Noah Kekere, who has been in police custody over alleged organ harvesting in the state.

Recall that Mr Kekere was arrested last week, following a complaint by one Kehinde Kamal, who accused the medical practitioner of harvesting one of her kidneys during an operation in 2018.

After Mr Kekere’s arrest, another victim, a 75-year-old man who identified himself as Ibrahim O. Ejibade, came out to claim that the doctor had also removed one of his kidneys early this year.

Confirming the arrest of the doctors whose names were not disclosed, the command spokesman, Alfred Alabo, said the doctors have joined Mr Kekere in their custody.

Mr Alabo disclosed that the commissioner of police would constitute a high-powered committee of medical professionals to extensively investigate the matter.

He said: “We have gotten two additional suspects who were the doctors who actually conducted the surgery on the lady. They said they were conducting surgery that had to do with the appendix.

“We have invited professionals from the Ministry of Health in Plateau State, and also the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), to give us those professionals that will assist us.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius is forming a committee of high-powered medical experts to look into these allegations,” Mr Alabo said.

According to him, a lot of other things have also been discovered, adding that Mr Kekere was not a medical doctor as he has been parading himself.

Mr Alabo added that the public would be kept informed as the investigation unfolds.
