The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio expressed his belief on Wednesday that the Tinubu government has gotten off to a strong start, reinforcing his confidence that the President and the National Assembly can work together to revitalise the country’s struggling sectors.

President Tinubu has authorised a number of substantial changes since taking office 24 days ago. One major change is the removal of fuel subsidies, which the President refers to as “an elephant that would take the country down.”

Furthermore, financial experts have lauded the merging of multiple exchange rates into a single rate as a step that will increase government revenue and strengthen the naira.

In addition, the President made some leadership changes in the security sector. All service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police were replaced with new appointees in a move that was intended to strengthen the security network of the country.

“With the way the President has been exercising his mandate in the last 20 days, I am very confident that hitherto moribund and abandoned industries across the country would be given due attention with a view to providing jobs and business opportunities for our teeming youths,” Sen Akpabio said.

While taking his oaths, the President committed to reduce the nation’s unemployment rate significantly through policies that support domestic manufacturing.

The Senate President’s confidence reflects the hopes of many Nigerians who are looking forward to an increase of lasting jobs.
