Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, on Tuesday, received members of the House of Assembly led by the newly inaugurated Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide.

With a majority of 22 out of 26 members present, the Assembly officially installed Elemide as the new Speaker of the assembly, representing the Odeda constituency. Additionally, the assembly confirmed the impeachment of Olakunle Oluomo, who was previously removed on Tuesday of last week.

This decision was made during the plenary session, which was chaired by Deputy Speaker Bolanle Ajayi.

Following the inauguration, Elemide promptly guided the House members to express their loyalty to Abiodun in his office. Congratulating the legislature on the election of a new leader, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, acting as the Governor’s Deputy, conveyed their appreciation.

The Governor firmly emphasized that the lawmakers possess the prerogative to select a leader according to their preference, affirming his support for the choice they have made. Abiodun further reiterated that he did not interfere in the process that resulted in the emergence of the new speaker.

“It is worthy of note that the executive has not interfered in the process to make sure that you are comfortable in what you want to do, that led you to making your decision. And we support you in the decision that you make.

“You have gone through the process in a way that is exemplary. This is not the first time in this country that members of a particular legislature have decided to change their leader,” Abiodun said.

He assured them of his government support and commitment to harmonious relationship between the two arms of government.

Elemide assured that the legislature would continue to give support to the government in order to achieve set goals in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, Deputy Chief of Staff to the governor, Toyin Taiwo, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiu Hamzat, among others were in attendance.
