The Kogi State Government has successfully rescued the remaining eight kidnapped students of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.

According to reports, the students were found in a forest in Kwara State, following a collaborative operation with the Kwara State government.

In a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday, it was disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has instructed full support for the recovery of the students and their families.

Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance security measures across the state for the safety of all residents.

The statement expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his directive to mobilize resources for the rescue operation and thanked the National Security Adviser for his dedication to the release of the students and overall security in the state.

Acknowledgment was also extended to various security agencies, including the Armed Forces, police, DSS, NSCDC, and local hunters, for their invaluable contributions to the successful rescue mission.

Furthermore, Governor Ododo expressed immense appreciation to his counterpart in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahmam AbdulRazak, for his personal commitment and cooperation, which played a pivotal role in the operation’s success.

This collaboration highlights the unity of purpose between Kogi and Kwara states in addressing security challenges.

With the students now safe, the Kogi State administration pledges to continue efforts to strengthen its security framework and prioritize initiatives such as the Safe School Initiative.

Emphasizing the state’s commitment to education, Fanwo highlighted measures taken to ensure access to quality education, including free education up to the secondary school level and the payment of registration fees for internal and external examinations.

Governor Ododo urged citizens to provide intelligence to security agencies to prevent crime effectively, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in society.

The successful rescue comes after the tragic killing of two abducted students of Confluence University of Science and Technology last week.

While confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Bertrand Onuoha, stated that the victims were found shot in the Osara area of the state.

Further details on the incident were not provided during his interaction with journalists in Lokoja, the state capital.
