Two suspects in the recent conflict between bandits and vigilantes in the state’s Gada Local Government Area have been taken into custody by the Sokoto State Police Command.
In a phone conversation with our correspondent on Sunday, ASP Ahmed Rufai, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this.
Six people were confirmed killed in a fight between vigilantes and suspected bandits in Gada LG, a neighborhood known locally as Yan Sakai, according to the state police command.
A local source claimed that the vigilantes had exacted revenge on the man who killed their leader, Alhaji Dahiru, by shooting a suspected bandit.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the incident began when a village vigilante leader from Gidan Hashimu attempted to apprehend and question a well-known cattle rustler who was idling around the market.
Around the market, the Fulanis group, however, resisted the move.
In the meantime, ASP Ahmad Rufai revealed that the two suspects had been taken into custody early on Sunday.
“We arrested two suspects this morning in connection with the Gada incident. The two suspects were arrested with a Dane Gun and three cows.
“They are from one village in Goronyo Local Government Area of the state and through our initial investigation, the two of them have confessed to the crime.
“They also promised to give more details about the fleeing suspects which we hope will lead to their possible arrest as well as prosecution by the rule of law.”
